Hi, just got to mountains using BetrValheim and noticed the following:

  1. Using backpack with an item in it, e.g. 50 wood, open a chest > move 50 wood from backback to player inventory > move item from player inventory to chest = duplicates the item, as in you now got 100 wood.
  2. QuickStack items to storage will pick the closest storage accepting the item. Not using Drawers first.
  3. Enable "feeding Cooking stations" will grill all available meat. (fix 5.1.9 does not seem to work)
  4. There is no good option that I found that can make auto-feeding Kiln useful. Having it off and manually click 25 times does work but would be great if more options per station/material would could be added. This ties into the point 3 as that also makes it a non-option.
  5. Bee boxes: perhaps intended but would it be possible to add auto-empty&store?
  6. Fermenters: perhaps intended but would it be possible to add auto-empty&store?
  7. For 5 and 6 I'm thinking adding them to the "Lazy Cooking" feature...
  8. Pin on map via BetrValheim's feature does not allow marking them "done" (as in click to put an X on it) - intended?
  9. "Auto equip armour on pickup" - is this intended to work on recovering items after death? It does not auto equip anything when picking up "body".

I have more but they need to be confirmed so it is not just me or late night ghosts in the system :-).
Cheers

Hey Christian, thanks a lot for testing so thoroughly, that’s super helpful!

  1. Backpack duplicating – That one has top priority. I went through it but couldn’t pin it down yet, so I need the exact steps: Did you drag the wood or Ctrl-click it? Was the backpack tab selected while the chest was open? And where did the 100 end up (50 in the chest and still 50 in the backpack)? A short video would be perfect.
  1. Quick stack and drawers – Drawers come first by default (F11 → Storage & pieces → Drawers first). A drawer only gets something if it already holds that exact item and is within quick stack range. Could you check whether that setting is on and whether the drawer already had wood in it?
  1. & 4. Cooking stations and kilns – Yes, once auto-feeding is on, they take everything they can use. Since 5.1.9 it’s off by default for that reason. What already helps: Keep per source and Keep only of (F11 → Sources) leave a reserve in every chest, e.g. keep 200 wood, and Blocked items (F11 → Stations) keeps certain things out completely. Choosing materials per station with Shift+E only works on smelters and blast furnaces so far. Extending that to kilns and cooking stations is a good idea, it’s on my list.

5.–7. Bee boxes and fermenters – Not in yet, but I like the idea of putting it with Lazy cooking. Noted!

  1. Map markers – They’re their own list and not the game’s pins, so no X for now. Ticking them off is a nice idea, noted too.
  1. Auto equip from the grave – Right now it only works for armour you pick up from the ground. The grave puts everything back into its slots but doesn’t put it on. Could be added though.

And please send the other things too, even if you’re not 100 % sure. Better one report too many than a bug slipping through 🙂

Cheers, Dezzy

Thanks again for point 1, you found a real one! When a chest was open, a Ctrl-click in the backpack moved the item into your inventory and copied it into the chest as well. That’s fixed now and will be in the next update. Until then, better drag items out of the backpack instead of Ctrl-clicking while a chest is open 🙂

  1. Well, my note was the non-Twilight Zone version. I need to go in again and test but I used both drag&drop plus ctrl-click. It is even more odd than my note. I did notice that when ctrl-click, item(stack) replaced my weapon in the top bar (slot 2) - I no longer got an axe - closing the window and I got my axe back and a stack of moved item, sometimes duplicated. I did not find a logic to it yet more than it is "all over the place" :-). Hopefully can be replicated by "playing around". Disabled backpack for now. If you cannot replicate please let me know.
  2. Quick stack - I did check, multiple times, just to make sure (Drawers first = true). Note that the chest(s) got the category that the drawer holds an item for. E.g. Material would take wood if I stand closer to it than the wood drawer.

3-4. It would be better to have the opposite - make/stop at 100 coal, rather than leave 100 wood out of the 2000. I don't find the current solution useful since it will not relate to the progress I'm at. Disable feature and manually is ok for now. I would really enjoy the "paus" on the station as well as configurable "filters". As in only auto-feed if less than X coal in any storage. The "keep" system sort of works but adds a lot of admin and every new area or material needs updating this...not in game but in config file. We are Lazy Vikings after all...

The other things is really one thing mainly - the portal list seem to have a life of its own. Now, this may very well be user failure, power outage messing with save/config in the storm we had yesterday (I actually live in the Viking land, surrounded by runestones and get the Valheim weather in RL :-)). Will pay more attention to anything odd that I find and note it down.

I play on dedicated server, even when alone. I checked both server and client configs and they match for the settings relevant to the above. I don't have any mods that does what BetrX does.

2. Quick stack - I did check, multipl

Thanks for testing again, Christian!

  1. Backpack – Good news: everything you saw comes from one bug, and it’s already fixed for the next update. With a chest open, Ctrl-click in the backpack put the stack into your inventory and into the chest behind it. In your inventory it could even sit on top of your hotbar slot, which is why your axe “vanished” and came back with a duplicate. Dragging isn’t affected. When the update is out, feel free to switch the backpack back on, and if anything still acts up, tell me!
  1. Quick stack – With Drawers first on, the drawer that already holds that item always comes first, no matter how close a chest is. Two exceptions on purpose: the “Place stacks” button inside an open chest, and holding E on a chest. Both fill exactly that chest by its categories. Was it one of those, or the quick stack key? And was the wood drawer maybe full (10,000 by default)?

3./4. Stations – Totally get it, lazy vikings 😄 I’m looking into “stop at X” and a pause right on the station, set in game instead of in a config file.

Portals – No worries, just tell me what you notice: portals missing from the list, wrong names, wrong order, things coming back after you changed them? A screenshot helps a lot.

Cheers!

  1. QuickStack button only. Drawer not full, not even close. Roaming in the game now, will test when I get back to my virtual home.

Portals - I name them by number (e.g. 1, 2, 3) unless there is a point, as in "altar", "eiktyr" - I found two number 3 all of a sudden, same for "8". Now, was that me or the mod...so, will pay more attention to the portal list from now on. If me then really odd that "8" was close the the 1-4 portals....

  1. Aha, found the "issue". Not a bug, it is a range thing. When foes and trees drop near base a chest with the correct category can pick it up since the drawer might be out of range. After that the proximity thing kicks in since the chest now also keep the item(s). My chests are closer to the base wall so especially raids will trigger chests. I kept moving items and raids kept filling chests :-). Sorry for one. Case closed.

Hey Christian,

thanks again for all the testing! I’ve put together a test build with everything from your list. Would be awesome if you could give it a spin and tell me if it all works for you now:

  1. Backpack duplicating: Fixed. Ctrl-clicking in the backpack while a chest is open no longer copies items or covers your hotbar. You can switch the backpack back on.
  1. & 4. Stations: Shift + E now works on every station that gets refilled: kilns, smelters, cooking stations, ovens, fermenters.

Pause stops refilling that one station.
Stop when stored nearby, e.g. set the kiln to 100 and it only gets wood while there’s less than 100 coal in the chests around it.
With several materials you can also tick which ones it gets, e.g. only boar meat on the grill.

5.–7. Bee boxes, beehives & fermenters: New Lazy harvest (F11 → Stations, off by default, set by the server). Honey and mead go straight into a chest or drawer nearby that already holds them. If there’s nowhere to put it, it simply stays in the station.

  1. Map markers: Click a marker on the map to tick it off with the red cross, click again to take it off. In the list, done markers turn grey and move to the end of their group, and the group shows how many are left, e.g. “Copper (12/30)”. The list itself is calmer too: the buttons only show up when you hover a row.
  1. Auto equip armour: Now also works when you take your grave all at once.

Also new: F11 now opens in a “Simple” view with just the main switches. “All” shows everything.

DezzyCode-BetrValheim-5.1.11-test.zip9,0 MB

To install, just replace the BetrValheim files in your plugins folder with the ones from the zip. It’s a test build, so a quick backup of your world and character beforehand doesn’t hurt. If anything’s still off, just let me know here.

Cheers!
